XXV Conference, “Pandemic, climate change and energy crisis: how to adapt the transportation systems?”

Call for papers

We are glad to announce that the XXV Conference of the Italian Association of Transport and Logistics Economists (SIET) will be held on 22nd - 23rd June 2023 at the University of Trieste, Department of Economics, Business, Mathematics and Statistics, via Valerio, 4/1, 34127 Trieste (Italy). The main theme of the Conference is “Pandemic, climate change and energy crisis: how to adapt the transportation systems?”, but all relevant topics related to Transport Economics and Logistics are welcome.

The aim of the Conference is to promote theoretical and applied research with a marked interest in policy implications and to foster interaction among researchers, practitioners, policymakers and experts on recent advancements in the field of Transport Economics and Logistics. Prof. Elisabetta Cherchi (Newcastle University) will be the keynote speaker.

Both theoretical and empirical papers are welcomed on issues dealing with (but not limited to): transport resilience, pandemic and travel habits, environmental impact of transportation, sustainable transport and logistics, reverse logistics and circular economy, sustainability of maritime/air/rail/road transport, sustainability of agrifood supply chains, transport decarbonization, transport and energy transition, electric mobility, energy and transport infrastructures, green transport infrastructures, sharing mobility, active mobility, urban transport policy, sustainable transport policy, transport and social inclusion, travel behaviour, public transport, intermodal transport, automated vehicles, transport and artificial intelligence, Mobility as a Service (MaaS), transport regulation.

Call for Special Sessions 

Current accepted special sessions focus on urban transformation and mobility (AISRE); sustainability and innovation of transportation, energy and the food system for climate change (SIDEA); environmental sustainability and transportation (IAERE); competition and incentives in the transportation sector (SIEPI); E-commerce and new freight transport patterns (TØI).

Proposals for special thematic sessions can be submitted to the Local Organizing Committee (siet2023trieste@gmail.com), and should include proponent’s name, session title, abstract (max 200 words, 3-4 keywords) and the list of contributions (title, author(s), affiliations, e-mail address of corresponding author). Each special session should include at least four contributions.

Extended abstract

The abstract should have a minimum length of 1200 words, including references. It should be submitted to the Local Organizing Committee via email to the following address: siet2023trieste@gmail.com. Abstracts should state the research question(s), main (or expected) results, policy implications and a list of selected references. Accepted abstracts will be published in Rivista di economia e politica dei trasporti (REPoT, http://sietitalia.org/sito%20REPT/iniziale.htm). Please, use the template available in Italian (here) or in English (here). Indicate in your email if you would like your paper to be included in a special session.

Additional opportunities for publication
Transport Economics and Management (https://www.sciencedirect.com/journal/transport-economics-and-management) will accept a selection of three-four papers presented at the XXV SIET Conference. Please, indicate in your email if you want to submit your paper to the journal.

Awards

To promote the dissemination of Transport economics and Logistics among young scholars, SIET will assign the following awards.
•    the "2023 SIET Best Paper Award” for the best theoretical or empirical paper presented at the XXV SIET Conference by a young researcher (under 35 years). The winner will receive a prize of €300 as well as a two-year free SIET membership;
•    the “2023 SIET Best Doctoral thesis” for the best Doctoral thesis on Transport economics and Logistics examined in the 2022 calendar year or by April 2023. The winner will receive a prize of €1000 well as a three-year free SIET membership.
Additional details on both awards will be emailed to all SIET members.

•    Acceptance notification of papers and special sessions: May 5th, 2023
•    Early bird conference registration: June 5th, 2023
