Call for papers

We are pleased to announce that the XIX Conference of the Italian Association of Transport Economics (SIET) ( will be held in Apulia, organised the University of Bari, Italy, October 5-6, 2017. The title of this year Conference is “Growth and Mobility: the transport challenge”. The aim of the Conference is to promote the academic debate and in-depth scientific interactions among researchers on recent advances in the field of infrastructure and transport economics and, more generally, on networks economics. The focus will be on the role of accessibility, mobility and capital endowment in promoting welfare increases, productive efficiency, social inclusion and economic growth. Significant space will be allocated to the contribution on new technologies and on sharing mobility, as well as to the issues of economics of aerospace, intermodal transport and logistics. The growing internationalisation of the economy and the impact on the transport sector of changes in the balance of power among countries will also be discussed.

Theoretical and empirical papers are welcome on the topic of the Conference and on related issues, such as (not exhaustively): transport policy from a micro and a macro-economic perspective; smart connected mobility and logistics; energy efficient and environmentally-friendly transport; urban mobility; modal and intermodal competition; market structure; financing, pricing and regulation of infrastructures and services; multilevel governance in transport; logistics; freight distribution; innovation; ICT; network industries; mobility and tourism; cruise and nautical activities; land management; urban economics; specific transport sectors (maritime, aviation, rail), etc. Proposals for dedicated sessions on specific issues are welcome. Specific sessions on “One belt one road policy”; “The new governance of Italian ports”; “Unmanned vehicles and aircrafts” are already in preparation.

Among the invited speakers, Andrè de Palma (École normale superieure de Cachan) and Marc Ivaldì (Toulouse School of Economics) have already confirmed their presence.


The Conference is organised at the Department of Economics, Management and Business Law, University of Bari “Aldo Moro”, Bari campus and Brindisi campus.


Please submit an extended abstract (2-4 pages or 500-800 words) at the following address: The document should indicate title, author(s), affiliations, corresponding contact, JEL classification and three keywords. The abstract should state clearly the research question, the methodology, the main (or expected) results and references. The abstracts will be refereed by a scientific committee.
